The flag of Bangladesh consists of a red circle on top of a green background. The red circle represents the sun rising over Bangladesh, while the green background symbolizes the lushness and vibrancy of the country.
The official guidelines for the flag’s dimensions specify that the length-to-width ratio should be 5:3. This means that if the length of the flag is 5 units, its width should be 3 units. The national flag of Bangladesh was adopted officially on 17 January 1972.
The first version of the flag was designed and made by a group of student leaders and activists of Swadheen Bangla Nucleus on 6 June 1970, at room 108 of Iqbal Hall, Dhaka University. On 2 March 1971 the flag was hoisted in Bangladesh for the first time at Dhaka University, by student leader A. S. M. Abdur Rab.In the First version of the Flag there was a map of Bangladesh on the red circle. On 13 January 1972 after the independence of Bangladesh the flag was modified. The map from the center was removed, and the red circle moved towards the hoist.
