Dhaka to Khulna train schedule
Dhaka and Khulna are two major cities in Bangladesh, located in the central and southwestern regions of the country respectively. Dhaka is the capital and the largest city, while Khulna is the third-largest city and an important industrial and commercial hub. There are two intercity trains that operate on the Dhaka to Khulna route: Sundarban Express and Chitra Express. Both trains depart from Dhaka’s Kamalapur Railway Station and arrive at Khulna Railway Station, covering a distance of about 272 kilometers. Sundarban Express is the older and more frequent train service on this route. It runs six days a week, except for Wednesdays. The return trip starts from Khulna at 10:15 p.m. and ends in Dhaka at 7:00 a.m. the next day. The train has 12 coaches, including four air-conditioned ones. Sundarban Express stops at 19 stations on its way to Khulna, which are: Biman Bandar, Joydebpur, Mouchak, Mirzapur, Tangail, BB Setu (East), SM Monsur Ali, Jamtoil, Ullapara, Boral Bridge, Chatmohar, Ishurdi, Bheramara, Poradaha, Alamdanga, Chuadanga, Darsana Halt, Court Chandpur, and Jessore. The train also stops at Noapara and Daulatpur on its way back to Dhaka.
Chitra Express is the newer and faster train service on this route. It was launched in 2015 and named after the Chitra River that flows through Khulna. It runs six days a week, except for Mondays. It departs from Dhaka at 7:00 p.m. and arrives in Khulna at 3:10 a.m., taking about eight hours and ten minutes to complete the journey. The return trip begins from Khulna at 9:00 a.m. and ends in Dhaka at 5:55 p.m. The train has 12 coaches, including two air-conditioned ones. The ticket prices are similar to those of Sundarban Express, except for the AC Berth class, which costs 1403 Taka instead of 1599 Taka.
Chitra Express stops at 14 stations on its way to Khulna, which are: Biman Bandar, Joydebpur, Mouchak, Mirzapur, Tangail, BB Setu (East), SM Monsur Ali, Jamtoil, Ullapara, Boral Bridge, Chatmohar, Ishurdi Bypass (North), Poradaha Bypass (North), and Jessore. The train also stops at Noapara on its way back to Dhaka.
Both trains offer online ticket booking facilities through Bangladesh Railway’s official website or mobile app². Alternatively, tickets can be purchased from authorized agents or railway stations. However, it is advisable to book tickets in advance as they tend to sell out quickly due to high demand.
