Dhaka to Netrokona Train

Dhaka and Netrokona are two important districts in Bangladesh, located in the central and northern regions of the country respectively. Dhaka is the capital and the largest city, while Netrokona is a historical and cultural center. Traveling between these two districts by train is a common and convenient option for many people, as it offers a fast, comfortable, and economical journey.

There are two intercity trains that operate on the Dhaka to Netrokona route: Mohonganj Express and Hawr Express. Both trains depart from Dhaka’s Kamalapur Railway Station and arrive at Netrokona Railway Station, covering a distance of about 171 kilometers. The trains have different schedules, ticket prices, and stoppages along the way, which are described below.

Mohonganj Express is the older and more frequent train service on this route. It runs six days a week, except for Mondays. It leaves Dhaka at 2:20 pm and reaches Netrokona at 6:50 pm, taking about four and a half hours to complete the journey. The return trip starts from Netrokona at 11:30 pm and ends in Dhaka at 6:00 am the next day. The train has 12 coaches, including two air-conditioned ones. Mohonganj Express stops at 13 stations on its way to Netrokona, which are: Biman Bandar, Joydebpur, Mouchak, Mirzapur, Tangail, BB Setu (East), SM Monsur Ali, Jamtoil, Ullapara, Boral Bridge, Chatmohar, Ishurdi Bypass (North), and Poradaha Bypass (North). The train also stops at Noapara on its way back to Dhaka.

Hawr Express is the newer and faster train service on this route. It was launched in 2015 and named after the Hawr River that flows through Netrokona. It runs six days a week, except for Wednesdays. It departs from Dhaka at 10:15 pm and arrives in Netrokona at 4:40 am, taking about six hours and 25 minutes to complete the journey. The return trip begins from Netrokona at 8:30 am and ends in Dhaka at 4:30 pm. The train has 12 coaches, including two air-conditioned ones. The ticket prices are similar to those of Mohonganj Express.

Hawr Express stops at nine stations on its way to Netrokona, which are: Biman Bandar, Joydebpur, Mouchak, Mirzapur, Tangail, BB Setu (East), SM Monsur Ali, Jamtoil, and Ullapara. The train also stops at Noapara on its way back to Dhaka.

Both trains offer online ticket booking facilities through Bangladesh Railway’s official website¹ or mobile app². Alternatively, tickets can be purchased from authorized agents or railway stations. However, it is advisable to book tickets in advance as they tend to sell out quickly due to high demand.
