Dhaka Metro Rail, officially MRT Line-6, is the city’s first metro line. It runs north to south through the capital, from Uttara in the north to the Kamalapur area, linking Mirpur, Agargaon, Farmgate and the Motijheel business district. Its operator is Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), a state-owned company.

Before you travel
Timetables change on public holidays and during festivals. On 19 October 2026 DMTCL published a special timetable for the Durga Puja holidays, for example. Check DMTCL’s notice board for the latest announcements.
Why it matters
Dhaka is one of the world’s most crowded cities. The metro offers a way to cross the city’s main north-south corridor without sitting in road traffic, which is why many commuters now use it for trips between Uttara, Mirpur and the city centre.
